Plum has had a busy winter - we've been getting our new service - Social Groups - ready for prime time. It's mid March and my crocuses are up and Social Groups is live.
Writing a blog post is a lot of work (I barely manage once a year), twitter and facebook and "micro-blogging" is fast and easy. But what about all those things I want to share with my sibs or my college friends and not my professional network - many of whom are Facebook friends. And although I like to think the whole world follows my tweets, the people most important to me expect a more private venue.
Internally at Plum we've tended to use classic.plum.com as a sort of watercooler - we posted things there of interest to ourselves and our friends. When we wanted something to be private, we used a Plum feature called "private folders". After a while were like.. wait a minute, social networking with privacy is big improvement - and we've buried it.
Plum Groups is our solution - our goal is to make sharing with your friends (only) or family (only) "mindlessly easy". We'll be working to make it better and faster over the next few months.
